How it works

  • Enroll online

Get started by filling out the online enrollment application to find out if you are eligible for assistance.

  • Pre-qualification

NiceRx verifies your eligibility for medication assistance and notifies you if you are pre-qualified. The pharmaceutical company provides your medication for free, and you only pay our service fee.

  • Submit documents

We will request documents to be submitted by you and your healthcare provider that are required by the pharmaceutical company to complete your enrollment.

  • Receive medication

Once approved, the pharmaceutical company typically ships a 90-day supply of medication to your home or healthcare provider’s address. Final acceptance is determined by the pharmaceutical company.

Am I eligible for the Bidil patient assistance program?

We will review your application to determine whether you are eligible for the Bidil patient assistance program. Each program has its own eligibility criteria which are set by the pharmaceutical companies, however, the factors considered by most programs are:

  • I am a permanent, legal resident of the United States or Puerto Rico
  • I am uninsured or my insurance doesn’t cover my medication
  • I meet certain income eligibility requirements

How do I apply for the Bidil patient assistance program?

We make it as easy as possible to apply for the Bidil patient assistance program. The first step is to complete our enrollment application. Tell us about any medications you are taking, including Bidil. We will also ask for details about your healthcare provider, insurance, and your household income. This information is required by the pharmaceutical manufacturers who ship your medication.

If we determine that you may be eligible for Bidil assistance, we will handle the application process for you. We will work directly with your healthcare provider to prepare your application documents. Once we have received the signed application and supporting documents, we will submit them to the patient assistance program on your behalf. Our service continues once you are enrolled in the Bidil patient assistance program, and we will automatically request your Bidil medication refills for up to 1 year.

Our service extends to assisting eligible individuals to access the medications they need through patient assistance programs.

How much does Bidil cost without insurance?

Bidil prices without insurance will vary depending on where you buy it and the quantity you buy (30 or 90 tablets). As a guide, Bidil usually costs around $130 for 30, 20 mg-37.5 mg Bidil tablets. With NiceRx you will pay a flat monthly fee of $49, regardless of the retail price of your medication.

What is Bidil?

Bidil is a heart failure medicine prescribed to self-identified African American patients. It is the only heart failure medicine specifically indicated for self-identified African American patients. You take Bidil as an oral tablet, usually three times a day, but your doctor will tell you how much Bidil to take and how often. Bidil can be used alone or alongside other heart failure medications.

The medication helps treat your heart failure by opening up your blood vessels and reducing your blood pressure, making it easier for your heart to pump blood around your body. This can reduce your chances of needing to be hospitalized and can help you live with your condition more easily and for longer.

Bidil active ingredients

Bidil contains two active ingredients. Isosorbide dinitrate and hydralazine. They work together to make it easier for your heart to pump blood around your body.

Isosorbide dinitrate and hydralazine are both vasodilator medicines that widen your blood vessels. When you take Bidil, the isosorbide dinitrate and hydralazine it contains is absorbed into the smooth muscle tissue in the walls of your blood vessels. They cause the smooth muscle tissue to relax, helping to open up your blood vessels. This reduces your blood pressure and makes it easier for your heart to pump blood around your body.

Bidil side effects

The most common side effects caused by Bidil include:

  • Headaches
  • Dizziness

In rarer instances, Bidil can cause more serious side effects. These include:

  • Severe allergic reactions to the medication
  • Risk of developing a serious autoimmune disease that can damage your heart, lungs, and kidneys called lupus erythematosus
  • A type of nerve damage called peripheral neuropathy
  • Chest pain (angina) that spreads to your jaw and shoulder
  • A fall in blood pressure (hypotension)

Bidil drug interactions

Bidil can interact with other medications. This can change how Bidil and the other medications work and can make some side effects more likely. Tell your prescribing doctor about all drugs you are taking, including vitamins, and herbal and dietary supplements.

Bidil should not be used alongside:

  • Riociguat (Adempas), used to treat a range of heart problems, including chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension and pulmonary arterial hypertension
  • PDE5 inhibitor medications used to treat erectile dysfunction, including avanafil (Stendra), sildenafil (Viagra), vardenafil (Levitra), and tadalafil (Cialis)

Bidil warning and precautions

Bidil is not suitable for everyone. Do not take Bidil if you:

  • Are allergic to the active ingredients isosorbide dinitrate or hydralazine
  • Are allergic to any of the other ingredients in Bidil (you can find these listed in the leaflet which comes with the medication)
  • Are allergic to any other organic nitrates
  • Are under 18 years of age

  • Are taking any of the medications that could interact with Bidil
  • Are over 65 years of age
  • Are pregnant or are planning to become pregnant
  • Are breastfeeding or are planning to breastfeed
